Mary Beatrice was incredibly talented and won a scholarship in Diary Farming at the Scottish Agricultural College, Aberdeen her son Dafydd Davies said his Mother was the first woman to obtain a degree in agriculture in Cardiff University.  My Mother (Margaret Garfield) walked daily from Toryfron and Cynhordy Farm to Gelli Ebleg with a jack of milk, she was very fond of her Grandmother and Auntie Beatrice, Beatrice husband Hiram was a hero of World War 1 serving in the Somme and Ypres he fought in the third battle of Ypres (Passchendaele) in which the famous Welsh Bard Hedd Wynn was killed, Uncle Hiram had suffered bad Gas attacks from the Germans, my Mother said he survived mainly on milk diet they were a devoted couple and he died a young man. After Iram’s death Beatrice moved to 2 Greenfield Terrace, Llangynwyd living next door to her brother Arthur and his family who lived at Number 1.
