John and Esther pined the loss of their daughter Margaret and her family and their son Ricy to the New World - America and John was sent to bring them back, it is likely that by the time John was sent both Margaret and her husband had died, but they had two young grandchildren without Mother or Father in a strange and inhospitable land thousand of miles away.
Two young children they knew, loved and enjoyed and had had to say goodbye to ………………..
For many years we have looked for descendants of John’s, Owen J. Olsen tried very hard and although we have some information it brought nothing forward now in November 2020 I've found his great-great-great granddaughter.
Until reading and copying the letters I have from John to his brother Ricy in Utah, I had not realized how sad his life in America he had.
Ricy’s life although hard compared to the privileged life he had in Wales was exciting, fruitful and happy there certainly wasn't’t any hostile Indians in Wales having their lands taken from them ! and his children achieved well in the new country, Margaret & John Evans although very tragic and once again so much harder than it would have been in Wales especially on their children Hetty & John were loving grandparents and family would have cared from them after the loss of their parents, but John unhappy in marriage, his son had died and a son-in-law he disliked and very little money, if his parents had still be alive and aware of this their hearts would have been further broken :
The 1900 United States Federal Census provides the following information which I believe to be correct
