John born 25th January, 1853 is the one I can most connect with his youngest daughter Muriel May was a friend of my Grandmother Hetty Ann (Miles) Garfield and was a regular visitor to our family home and my grandmother had visited them their home in Neath.  John married Moriah Lewis and ran a successful business at Bridge Street, Neath, when I was a child you could see his name clearly still on the shop wall, unfortunately the shop was demolished some years ago and new place of worship erected on its site. There was a good train service from the Garw and Llynfi Valley to Neath which is made it easy for my family to visit them.  Neath had a good market and once a year a big fair, Neath is said to have run for 700 years.

John and Maria had ten children and on the 1911 Census eight children were still living and two had died.

Maria Jane born 1873 married John Rosser. 

William John born 1877 married Matilda Wagstaff and on the 1911 census lived at 18, School Road, Neath with two children Herbert John born 1909 and Gwyneth Margaret born 1910. William John is recorded has a tailor like his Father.  

Arthur Stephen born 1882 married Elizabeth Davies the disgraced son, he married Elizabeth Davies and had a son Trevor, Arthur visited America and later emigrated, his Uncle Thomas Roberts (Fathers brother) lived in America and he is mentioned in one or more of Hettie Adamson letter's (his Father's first cousin) to the best of my knowledge he never contacted his family in Wales and no one knows what happened to him. Edgar David born 1883 married a Miss Boucher.   

Ernest Thomas born July 1884 (died 14.12.1947 Cardiff) was a butcher and married Lydia Rosser 1881-1958 (the 1901 census records Lydia as the daughter of Philip & Catherine Rosser - Park Farm, Bridgend) they had two children Edith Mary 22nd May 1910 Neath -1990 Wellington married Leslie Frederick Ralph 6th June 1931 Exeter, and Elizabeth Doreen 2nd June 1912 Neath, Glamorgan -23rd July 2004 Totnes, Devon.  Edith Mary married Leslie Frederick Ralph 6th June, 1931 Exeter.  Elizabeth Doreen born 2nd June 1912 died 23.07.2004 Totnes, Devon married Percy White 1913-2004. On the 1911 Census Record Ernest & Lydia are living at 91 Gnoll Road, Neath, a nice address. 

Robert Edward died on the 28.11.1896 age just 9.  

Ricy Gwyn Howell 1889 died 1967 he married Mary Parry and worked as a mechanical engineer.  

Elizabeth Maud born 22.07.1890 died September 1977 married Rees Thomas.   

Muriel May born 10th December 1893 married Sidney Samuel - no children
